Tranquility Brook

Introduction

Tranquility BrookEstablished in 2016, The House at Tranquility Brook (commonly referred to simply as Tranquility Brook) was founded as a respite from the hectic and often grueling life of Rockledge Florida. Or, more accurately, the oppressively hot summers of Rockledge, Florida. Located approximately 1 day's drive from both the Florida Space Coast and New York City, this house is centrally located and convenient to anyone with a car, a day to get there, and 4 or 5 tanks of gas.

About the Brook

Some say that the stream flowing gently into Kinzel Springs, commonly referred to as Tranquility Brook, was first discovered by American settlers in 1724. The gentle slopes of the Great Smoky Mountains created the perfect conditions for a narrow, tranquil brook first used by the settlers for drinking and cooking. The Tranquil Brook Act of 1889 ensured that "No persons may use the [Tranquility] brook, any tributary brooks, or Kinzel Brook for any natural purpose other than sustaining life" thereby guaranteeing it's status as truly one of the cleanest, coldest, natural brooks in the United States. Of course, trying to enforce this law amongst the bears who pee in the brook often has been somewhat of a challenge. Subsequent legislation trying to enforce the Tranquility Brook Act to apply to the down-stream Little River and Tennessee River have been unsuccessful.
Some say that astronaut Gus Grissom named the first lunar landing site on the Moon "Tranquility Base" after being overwhelmingly inspired during a 1963 visit to Tranquility Brook. Grissom, who died in the 1967 Apollo 1 fire during a training exercise, was often quoted as saying "I've never seen stars so bright and felt so one with the heavens as the night I slept next to Tranquility Brook"
Others say the brook was dug with a backhoe in 2015 and all of the above is bullshit.
Whatever you may believe, it's a very tranquil brook.

Wi-Fi

You're gonna need Wi-Fi. Up here in the mountains, mobile phone service like Jesus... we believe it exists, we're pretty sure it exists, occasionally a miracle happens and it reveals itself, but for the most part... it doesn't exist.

Bear Rescue

Appalachian Bear Rescue A group of dedicated volunteers decided to form Appalachian Black Bear Rehabilitation & Release Center to help the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park care for the orphaned cubs of the Smokies. The Appalachian Bear Rescue cares for orphaned and injured black bear cubs for return to their natural wild habitat. We also increase public awareness about coexisting with black bears and study all aspects of returning cubs to the wild.

The mountains have had a long human history spanning thousands of years-from the prehistoric Paleo Indians to early European settlement in the 1800s to loggers and Civilian Conservation Corps enrollees in the 20th century. The park strives to protect the historic structures, landscapes, and artifacts that tell the varied stories of people who once called these mountains home.
